In 2012, following operational changes at Palliacco, an organization supporting cancer patients and their caregivers, a new endeavour was initiated by some of its members who decided to focus their energy on setting up a palliative care home for Laurentian residents. It was at that time that the Fondation La Traversée was conceived.
From 2012 to 2016, the Fondation La Traversée began with a feasibility study. In 2015, the city of Mont-Tremblant offered to the Fondation La Traversée a building valued at approximately 1 million dollars to accommodate a new palliative care home in Mont-Tremblant. The building is strategically located in the heart of the Laurentians where the services will be offered to all Laurentian residents.
A major fundraising campaign was launched under the theme “Une Maison Pour Tous”, and in May 2018, the Fondation La Traversée was ready to move forward with the renovation of the former Chateau Beauvallon building in Mont-Tremblant. Construction began with a plan to open phase 1 in 2021.
